He wasn’t greeted with a kiss on the cheek or a relieved embrace; in fact, he wasn’t even welcomed with open arms.

Josh blinked stupidly at the door that had been shut in his face.

“Um... Sam?” He knocked again.

“You’re late, Josh,” came the accusation through the thick wood.

“What?”

“I saw Toby three months ago!”

Josh sighed. “Well, I don’t think he had to pack up in preparation to move!”

A long pause ensued.

Josh admitted, “I want to try again, Sam.” He heard movement inside. “I don’t want to live without you anymore.”

Sam unlocked the door.
