He hasn’t fallen asleep without the aid of total exhaustion or chemical substances in his system since before the shooting; he doesn’t tell anyone that, and no one ever asks—even when the shadows become darker under his eyes and he doesn’t regain the weight that he should have.

When Donna dutifully escorts him to the hospital for his stitches, he thinks to ask the doctor for a prescription sleep aid; he’s sick of loading what seems like a handful of over-the-counter pills into his system for the effect. The doctor spares him a glance before writing out the prescription.
